Surgery & Dentistry

Pre-Surgical Blood Work & Post Surgical Laser Therapy
Prior to all surgeries we offer pre-anesthetic blood work to evaluate the function of the liver and kidneys, electrolytes, red and white blood cells and platelet numbers.  This helps the doctors determine if the animal is healthy and safe to handle the anesthesia.  We also offer post-surgical laser to help increase cell activity and decrease inflammation and healing time.

Spay & Neuter
At Westside Family Pet Clinic we recommend spaying or neutering as a preventative against diseases later in life, along with preventing accidental or unwanted breeding.  Surgical sterilization of females before their first heat cycle decreases the chances of mammary gland carcinoma by 99%, and completely eliminates the chances of a pyometra, which can be a life threatening infection of the uterus.   If you have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to ask one of our staff members.

Dentistry
Dental health is very important to the health of your pet.  Not only is bad breath unpleasant but, plaque and tartar build up can cause problems with internal organs such as kidneys, liver and even the heart.  As you might imagine, most dogs and cats will not sit still for a dental cleaning, so we use gas anesthesia which keeps the animal still, helps control pain and protects the animal's air way from accidental aspiration.  We offer whole mouth care, from dental scaling & polishing to minor dental surgical procedures with our high power drill.

Orothpedic Surgery
At Westside Family Pet Clinic we offer many different types of bone surgeries.  Dr. Pedersen has focused many of his continuing education hours to this field and has gained a lot of experience over the last several years.  Most surgeries tend to be needed to repair dogs knees or to fix bones that have been broken.  We offer cranial cruciate repair (CCL) - repairs via extra-capsular fixation which works by forming a "false" ligament.  For broken bones we have many options depending on the type of break, we offer external fixation, IM pins, and bone plates.

Soft Tissue Surgery
We offer advanced surgery for soft tissue procedures as well.  This includes but is not limited to eye lid surgery (entropion, ectropion, mass removal), ear canal flushing, mass removals, preventative stomach tacking, stenotic nares correction, gastrointestinal volvulus,  foreign body removals, bladder stone removals, vulvoplasty and canine/feline c-sections.
